As for KB, what else is new........ And the GECX 9001/7517 is on EDPO non-complied to WTVL this morning. The MEC 7535-7552 are on EDRJ right now... And say Hi to Mr.Rooks in your office for me, as well!

When it comes to PAR/S, a full lube-oil sump and/or full fuel-oil tank can only be qualified as a temporary condition.

My anti-snark medication also can only qualified as temporarily successful.

Here's a thought ... imagine for a moment that you're Pan Am and you've been working on leasing these engines for about the past year. Also imagine that for whatever reason they were inexplicably delayed by GE/CSX/other issues ... I get it ... at some point you cut your losses and just "bite the bullet". However ... if you've been told over and over again "we'll have the new units within the next three to six weeks" perhaps that might be part of the answer. I have no indication whatsoever that this has been the case ... but when you start to see more deferred maintenance than usual (even by Guilford/Pan Am standards) it does make one wonder.

notice units are back in service with original number all GECX reference is gone.

Reportedly they are being operated as MEC XXXX right now (XXXX = CSX numbers) and the GECX marks and numbers were strictly for their shipment to PAR. Also being reported (by Mr. Burkholder) is that each unit will eventually make its way to Waterville for new MEC numbers. I haven't heard yet which number series they plan to use. (From a purely personal perspective I hope it's 4000)

In the past — most recently with the 600s — MEC renumbering was done at East Deerfield. I'm not sure why that wouldn't be the case this time around.

So ... we are now up to 24 units ... as I recall from earlier conversation this is now the biggest power acquisition in Pan Am/Guilford history and perhaps comparable on some scale to new power acquisitions once made by Maine Central or Boston & Maine.

I would be interested to know how many EMD units could be retired for no net horsepower loss. I think its easily going to be 30+.
