But even if its only a pair of trains I don't think it will matter much until it derails in their backyard.

I do remember before they tore up the Cutoff, a few 100 car plus coal drags going through Hackettstown while they were rebuilding the Portland Secondary. That was a sight.
blockline4180 wrote: Really?? Where did these coal drags originate?? I do know a few long distance manifest freights used the Secondary from 1976-1979 or so, but didn't realize about the coal!I remember at least 3 coal drags that went to the Portland Power Plant. I do know know where they originated from, but I do know they went up to Port Morris then the Cutoff and then back down to the powerplant. The timeframe would be late 70's. As I was told, they were doing a major upgrade to the tracks on the Portland secondary and while that was going on the coal was re-routed via the Cutoff. Sorry I can give you more or have any pictures.

All of NJT's diesels (except the P40s) are 15'6" (somewhere around there), so the catenary everywhere else must be somewhere above that.Back in the EL days, denville to dover had high wire at 17' 4" or so, due to this being a freight line all the way back
