Col. Allensworth State Park, while only a flag stop on the San Joaquin is in the middle of well, nowhere.

Grand Forks and it's Amshack are definitely a bit out of downtown, sitting quietly near Wells Concrete.

This Amtrak link provides lots of data. One could make a list of the busiest stations and least busiest stations. But the data includes surrounding population within 25 and 50 miles. Here are lists I have made of the lowest population within 25 and 50 miles to list the real middle of nowhere.

Interesting population numbers for New Brunswick and Princeton Junction. New Brunswick is obviously picking up all of Newark and Trenton along with most if not all of NYC and Philadelphia. Princeton Junction must be missing out on just a little bit of The Bronx/Westchester and eastern Queens.

I got off the sunset Ltd at Schriever, LA , back in the early 90's. There wasn't a house in site. Luckily the local bank manager had brought his son down to see the train, and gave me a lift to the "town". I set my tent up in the local Recreational ground, there was some kind of fair going on associated with a kids baseball game, so i got a great glimpse of small town America.

Gilbert B Norman wrote:Not too much in the way of civilization around Green River, UT
I have to agree with you there Mr. Norman. Having run 5/6 through Green River many a time in comparison to the stations between Winnemucca and Grand Junction, it is indeed pretty lonely. There is not a whole lot to do in Green River, UT. Beats the old station stop in Thompson which was a flag stop a few years ago just east of Green River. NOTHING there. At the very least Port Kent has a decent view to look at while you wait for the train to arrive.
