Saw the train with GP-38-2's 5611 & 5617 stopped short of the Mount Prospect Avenue crossing in Clifton at 10:45 AM. There was no crew on board, and the train seemed to have only container cars. ( The rear part of it was blocked by the Van Ness buildings).
That trains at there all day, and a poster on the E-L F/B page stated that it was re-crewed at about 11:30 PM and departed west at that time. He also posted some photos.
Train ran last night 3:00 am , 3 GP 38 6 covered hoppers , at least over 2 dozen loaded & empty spine cars took that covered hopper at the end, But left another ? soo long last night that it had to cross Kingland St. to make the switch in Nutley!!!
Train ran Monday night/Tuesday AM at 1:30 AM crossing Bloomfield Ave with horns bowing. Train evidently also switched Van Ness. Several cars on containers left at site.
They must've came down Friday night. Friday afternoon there were loaded spines parked just south of Allwood Rd., yesterday afternoon (Saturday) everything was gone.
5617, 5612 & 5610 ran last night (wed) some covered hoppers , empty spine cars & loaded ones & the covered hopper at the end!!! Too bad this all happens at night they spend over a hour switching in nutley !!! Some old time RR going on!!!!!
Three GP-38's to handle what we used to do with 1 GP-7. The class 1st are so pathetic these days. Where are they changing ends to get to croxton?
running with power on both ends I guess.
My new theory on that covered hopper that keeps sticking around is the crew probably uses it as a shoving platform from LaRoche to the run around. Doesn't look like there's a whole lot to hold onto with those spine cars. As for today... There are one or two loaded spine sets w/ that covered hopper parked between Rt. 3 and Allwood Rd. that I saw from the highway. Couldn't get a view if there was anything spotted at LaRoche.
