NS installed PTC on the NS Chicago Line but it is not active except for a couple of test freight trains. The "Cab Signals" comment seems bogus (and there are procedures to keep the trains moving even if cab signals fail).
I agree, it did seem strange that a train was allowed to leave the initial terminal in the first place with inoperative or untested cab signals. That is, however, the line we were fed. I didn't have a chance to ask the conductor who made the initial announcement, since he was relieved by a fresh conductor while mechanical was on the lead unit.

Probably it was for a division down the line ? Does Amtrak have a cab signal & PTC test circuits at more than one location in CHI ?

Train 66 is currently operating about 1 hour 20 minutes late due to unforeseen crew changes in Newark, (NWK).

Is that a euphemism for "someone had a rules violation?"

Per AmtrakAlerts Twitter the Texas Eagle is suffering through a ton of delays due to freight congestion, from 22 going down, turned to 21 coming back up, then turned to 22 again leaving 3h45m late and hitting more freight congestion, currently 5h late.

For some reason the SB Adirondack lost its rearmost two cars leaving ALB.

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — It was a frustrating and at times alarming Thanksgiving Eve for many train travelers in the Tri-State area who were trying to get home for the holiday.

Amtrak Train 68, called the Adirondack, was travelling from Montreal to New York Penn Station when two of its cars separated near Albany shortly before 7:30 p.m.

Does anybody know why #304 (25th) eastbound on the STL Corridor lost 4'00" between Pontiac and Dwight???

Looks like it was combined with #306 into CHI.

ohioriverrailway wrote:Might this have something to do with 49 losing two+ hours there last night?
The engine on 49 had a cab signal failure and they swapped the engine on from another train in the station. All the station tracks were full at the time so that task took longer than usual. 449 sat on the post road outside of the station during all of this until a station track opened up.

Shock waves on Amtrak. All the Empire builder trains show green . Actually none more than 30 minutes late and 8 arrived Chi today early !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But what has the most delays of all ? Three guesses and first 2 don't account. Its the Crescent again with both 19s and 20

So routes through the Southeast were cancelled yesterday through Monday, even though only lines in NC are seeing significant snow, and even though the snow should be melted enough today?

Is this Amtrak’s decision alone or did Amtrak have to cancel trains because NS and CSX shut down?

I have long planned on using the Crescent as a backup in case NYC- area airports are hit with bad weather but maybe that’s not a valid plan now.
