From the two wire service's coverage (courtesy New York Times), it appears that the train was Eastbound #2, The Canadian. Reportedly the sickness was first noted on board after departure from Jasper. There has been one fatality.

Without any intention of being "flip', it appears that the movie Andromeda Strain has factual underpinnings.

From this report, it appears "case closed' with a satisfactory outcome. It appears that from all reports, the passenger fatality was not related to whatever virus infected a number of, but by no means all, passengers aboard VIA #2.
