The Chicago & North Western unit is the latest addition to Union Pacific’s Heritage Series of locomotives. Incorporating historic colors and graphic elements of the Chicago & North Western, the new locomotive pays tribute to the men and women of the railroad that was a key link between Chicago and the West. Chicago & North Western was the first railroad to connect with Union Pacific at Council Bluffs in 1867.
The Chicago & North Western locomotive is the fifth unit in the heritage fleet. The Denver & Rio Grande Western locomotive was introduced in June. The Missouri Pacific and Western Pacific locomotives were unveiled in July 2005, and the Katy locomotive rolled out in September 2005. The Southern Pacific will be introduced Aug. 19 in Roseville, Calif.
