At http://editorial.gettyimages.com/ms_gin ... .aspx?pg=1 put 3231503 into the search box, and 3263859.

First one is a view of the Tower A area before the Post Office got extended westward to Ninth Ave in the early 1930s. The second one-- think they really had escalator(s) in Penn Sta in 1930? If so, where? I don't remember another pic of one.

Hi Timz, Getty's dates aren't foolproof, I think sometimes they are a lack of input to the computer. This one doesn't seem to be likely as it is 12:00am Jan 1, an easy computer default and a little light out for New Year's Eve. Maybe the data clerk just guessed at the decade and left the rest blank.

There was a 2 story escalator to LIRR's 34th St exit back in 1910, it was quite novel then. The one here appears to be to/from from track level in the arrival concourse. Its finish and the gent's clothes suggest the 40's. The one in Isaksenj's link was in place for WWII.

If you ever get to the Whippany Railway Museum, there is on display, a Track Indicator from the NY Penn Station.......this was taken from the landfill back in the 60's.
It sat in the weeds until about 7 years ago when it was cleaned, painted, mounted and had lights installed.
It's original height was about 15' but the scrapper torch cut it in half.
It is still impressive to see.
