Discussion of the past and present operations of the Long Island Rail Road.

This is a real tough one...

The Long Island Railroad was the controlling owner of the Long Island Consolidated Electric Railway Company, which, until somewhere around 1928 owned the five LIRR Trolley car operations.

They were in Huntington, Farmingdale, Amityville, The Rockaways, Northport Seafliff, etc.

What color where the cars painted?

I've assumed tuscan red, per PRR standards perhaps with cream trim.

Did the PRR have a standard drawing for the painting of street railway equipment? Lots of photos out there -- in black and white. ANd the colored picture postcards, well, we all know they were usually fictional.

Any help on this one would br appreciated.

Clem:

Write to Vincent Seyfried.
He's the Long Island / Queens / Brooklyn trolley historian.

Vincent F. Seyfried
163 Pine Street
Garden City, NY 11530

Send him a stamped, self addressed envelope. It's a nice gesture and will help him out. He gets lots of inquiries and this may assure a response! He's also having a hard time writing (he's 85 I believe).

Vince is an old acquaintance of mine. Tell him I suggested you contact him.

Ah Dave...

Thanks for the referral; Vince and I go back a long long way too...

When I posed the question to him perhaps 20 years ago, he shrugged his shoulders ... Just one of those mysteries from the days of Black & White.

We think they were red, but thats about all. Maybe an old article in the Street Railway Journal will describe the colors, but I havent found that article yet.
