While on the F line by Ave I station theres a section of middle track past the platform labeled caution test track area.

Whats being tested?

oops I meant 18 ave station platform.

If I had to guess I'd say subway cars whenever they need any kind of testing (brakes, acceleration, computers, anything that needs them running non-revenue)
