CSX Conductor wrote: The old track you're referring to which is the southeast leg of the wye at Walpole is called Lewis' Wye. Lewis' Wye has always had many headaches when used to/from the Franklin Main-line because a track circuit would always exist after the train's out of the interlocking. Also, even thouh the switch joining the Franklin Main is within Walpole interlocking, it is hand-thrown with an electric lock switch on a timer, with a hand-thrown derail. The T probably feels that with trains leaving track circuits in the interlocking and needing C&S dept to recify the problem costs more money just by needing C&S to come out. Also, you'd need to line the iron by hand as well as the derail, flag the crossing in the station's parking lot, and line the iron where the wye joins the Framingham Secondary, plus ir's derail. Afterwards everything would have to be relined and locked. Again, they used to have C&S on scene to line the iron and flag the crossing, but it costs more to have these people here, especially if 's overtime for them on their day off.
I took the train to and from Foxborough this evening, and it definitely used this leg of the wye. We did have to stop once for the switch on the Franklin line and twice for the switch at the south end of this leg -my guess would be once for an employee to get off and throw the switch and again for said employee to get back on. This probably meant about 10 minutes of stopping total, plus the (what seemed like) 5mph run through this leg of the wye. Any ideas as to whether or not this is faster than the "old" method using the other wye leg?

It might be a little bit faster because the engineer doesn't need to switch ends do a brake test and what for clearance to cross te diamond at Walpole and doing this twice slows it down each way, not to mention the speed limit is slow enough

The Providence train wasn't so lucky last night, the 1060 was giving problems all the way to Providence

The southcoast folks should take note of this method of expansion...

Does anyone know more info on the test train from Worcester to Foxboro? Does this mean it will definitely be happening this coming season?

When did this happen?

There was a confirmed test train from worcester to foxboro. I have the link to a video of the test train crossing 109 in Medfield. Here's the link, http://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=m-ch ... 36PwySXOhY" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

How long was the ride Worcester to Foxborough? I don't see the point of a 3-hour ride each way, even if you do want to tailgate (and you can't even get there early enough to do that).

How bad is the traffic between 495 and the stadium on Route 1? I always thought the biggest bottleneck was from the north.

It's 16-1/2 miles down the Framingham Secondary from Framingham at Class 1 speed with several un-gated crossings on the Framingham-Walpole segment requiring stop-and-protects. Speeds might be even lower here than the Walpole-Foxboro jaunt, so if it takes a Worcester-Framingham express trip + 90 minutes extra there's no way that'll be the least bit competitive with a bus on a bad 495 traffic day.

How much money would Kraft be willing to put in, though? Plus the tickets for a game train net some fair cash. MBTA + Kraft + CSX money could mean some half-way decent improvements.

$0 for the track improvements.

He'd probably be willing to collaborate on station improvements, TOD, parking etc. to get regular Foxboro CR service. But infrastructure for getting there is not his problem. Definitely not for a low-margin Worcester run.

I'm wondering if this is some desperate repackaging of that proposal Worcester business leaders floated--without asking anyone--during the Foxboro casino saga for a direct train to the would-be resort.

Does the T even have passenger rights on the upper Framingham Sec.?
