I dont know if is just some railfans making up a rumour, but ive heard it from many people and one guy seams he has seen plans that UP are trying to tee up with EMD to put a grya-light (DRGW) on the SD70 that is due to come out soon in D&RGW paint.

Has anyone else heard this or is it total BS? Something doesnt sound right to me :P

It is plausible.
I hope I am not thread hijacking).
One thing I do not understand is why call it U.P 1989. Most of the websites I looked at say The Denver & Rio Grande Western bought Southern Pacific in 1987 or 1988. A few say different years, but not 1989

Something to do with UP's numbering pattern.

MoPac - 1982
WesPac = 1983

Katy ACe = 1988
D&RGW = 1989

CNW = 1995
SP = 1996

Thats the pattern fellow railfans seam to think will happen.

The numbers are the year that the "official" merger took place. If I remember correctily SP never did officially close out on the Rio Grande. The company still existed on paper. The "official" closeout was not until UP bought the Espee.
