Sometime around 1940 the New York Central changed its lettering and
numbering on Steam and Electric locomotives to a much plainer san
serif style. Recently I've seen many photos of steam locomotives that
are supposedly from the mid to late 40's with the old style letters
and numbers.
Does anyone have information about the change of style and the actual
dates of the changes or even the date it started?
Any info would be appreciated.
