This was inspired by the Marble Hill History thread...

Were there ever four tracks through the Spuyten Duyvil station? Such as when it was a low-level platform? Does anyone know of any such photos? Thanks!

Edit: The only "old" photo I've found is this - http://www.nycsubway.org/perl/show?20200, but you can't see the station too well. However the photo IS very cool because you can see a freight crossing the Inwood Movable Bridge, and there is no forest covering the wye track area. I don't think the train is actually on the wye track though.

Terrapin Station,

Old arrangement at Spuyten Duyvil Station was Tks. 1 & 2 with outside low-level platforms, and Tk. 15 on the river side of the Tk 2 platform.
Tk. 15 connected with the wye track that came off Tk. 1 of the West Side Line and with Tks. 4,5, and 6 off the Hudson Line North of the station and with Tk. 2 south of the station just before the Rock Cut.

Tk. 15 was used to hold the West Bronx locals that either turned at DV or originated at Glenwood but connected with through locals at DV. It was also the route that the transfer freights such as DO-1/2 used to run from W. 72nd St. to Oak Point / Pt. Morris as well as for the Harlem Div. freights such as JN-DO to access W. 72nd St. from MO.

The NYC / PC / CR never had more than double track from FH Int. to DV Int. through the Rock Cut. Indeed, it was a major engineering effort when NYC went from single track to double track at this location.

Hope this helps.

For some interesting photographs of the DV area circa 1950's, see P. 26 - 35 in New York Central in the Hudson Valley, by George Drury, Kalmbach Pub.

They clearly show most of the trackage.
