The town will move garbage away from the Metro-North Railroad tracks passing through its long-closed municipal landfill, according to its cleanup plan filed with the state.
Some of the buried refuse is located against the railroad ties, a Metro-North spokeswoman said, and a plastic liner meant to contain pollutants within the landfill would also impair the agency from digging along that section of its Harlem Line. Marjorie Anders of Metro-North said if the capped area was immediately adjacent to the tracks the agency couldn't install signals, do other electrical work or even build a third track.
