There is a complete list (as of 2003) of the fate of all EL SD45's in the September/October2003, Vol. 14, No.5 "Diesel Era" magazine. The article was written by Larry DeYoung and is a comprehensive look at EL SD45's.
In a nut shell, most were retired by the mid 80's and scrapped.

Check out the current issue of Trains for the cover story on Montana Rail Link. It's twilight for the SD-45s on their line, including a few of ex-EL heritage. I'm trying to find out which ones are in fact EL survivors.
