Thanks Brooks....
Checked out Slateford, E. Stroudsburg, Anolomink and Tobyhanna on the way West mid-morning but all was quiet. The rails had light rust except at Toby where the main and propane siding were polished as were the wheels of the 2 tankers in that siding.
Steamtown was very quiet. Still 'out of season' I know but even the shops were still. Did catch a southbound medium freight on the main out behind the beer distributor and the D-L drilled the ST yard with two of those big C636 Alcos from about 2 to 3 p.m.. Was pleasantly surprised to see such a large volume of covered hoppers ( 25+ ), various boxes ( 15-20 ) and lumber cars ( 4-5 ) occupying the North leg of the wye, the Carbondale lead and the 3 yard tracks adjacent to the ST excursion station. Was fun to watch those Alcos shuffle things around....almost like it was around here 35+ years ago under the Lackawanna and E-L. Didn't realize that the D-L used the ST yard so extensively but it surely adds to the overall ST experience to have a working freight RR on premises daily !
Just before 4 p.m. two D-L brown Alcos arrived ( C420's I think ? ) from the East shoving about 10-12 additional boxes and hoppers out on to Bridge 60 where they parked and shut down for the night. Was this perhaps a D-L local that had worked the Poconos ?
Last stop was Taylor Yard but alas nothin' was cooking....too late in the day I guess.
