Back when the San Diego Northern took over the ATSF Surf Line and made numerous track and signal changes, they named the CP at the head of the grade between Sorrento Valley and Elvira CP CUMBRES, which I thought was a nice bit of whimsy in view of the location. I learned today that as of a month or so ago the CP was renamed with the old ATSF name MIRAMAR. There is a nice new sign there looking as though they just tore off the cellophane, opened the box, and put it in the ground. There has to be a story behind this -- does anybody know what it is? A new broom taking charge? Any other name changes anyone knows of?
