Do they still operate the South Brooklyn Railway?

I've seen the engines, but no trains in a while.

SBK is still around...they just repainted the engines not 3 months ago for the Coney Island Rodeo. They do small work, nothing like 20 years ago.. im told its kept alive for certain reasons which I dont recall at the moment. But what I hear is SBK will be around for quite some time to come...

OK, could you expand upon that please - inquiring minds want to know.
And if it's only scrap trains (meaning, I guess a few gondolas of NYCTA scrap leftovers, as apparently all the retired subway cars are going overboard to sleep with the fishes), why can't NYNJ Railroad handle that directly?

some cars have been put in the yard at 2nd ave for asbestos abaitment. They are then brought back up to 207th for striping and loading on to the barge for disposal.

South Brooklyn Railway still exists, even if all of its track does not. SBK provides a connection to the national rail network, and acts as a sort of buffer and transfer agent. It was originally operated as a property of the BMT.
