Save Danvers, Mass. depot... meeting scheduled!

There will be a meeting of the Danvers Depot Committee on Tuesday, January 24th at 7pm at the Danvers Art Association headquarters on Elliott St., (Rte. 62), Danvers. (the Art Assoc. is located in a former small brick elementary school near the entrance to the Danversport Yacht Club. It is easily accessible from the Rte. 62 exit off Rte. 128). Anyone having an interest in the preservation of this old B&M station should plan on attending. The station will be moved back to near its original location before it was moved to its present site in 1923. That move is scheduled for sometime this year. Passenger service to the station ended in 1959. It is still in reasonably good condition.

The next meeting of the Danvers Depot group will be Thursday Feb. 23rd at 7 pm at the same location... the Danvers Art Assoc. , on Rte. 62 just off Rte. 128 in Danvers. Come and put in your 2 cents about saving/restoring/using this gem. By the way, we found some really old paper items in the attic during a tour of the inside of the station two weeks ago. Some EASTERN RR items which date to before 1884 were tucked between the rafters... overlooked for 120 years!

The NEXT meeting of the Danvers Depot group will be on Thursday, March 16th, at 7pm at the WENHAM MUSEUM, Rte. 1-A, Wenham, Mass. The Museum is opposite the Civil War Mounment in the center of Wenham. (This is a change of location from the Danvers Art Assoc. on Rte. 62 in Danvers.) Hope to see all interested persons there.
