I saw in http://voices.washingtonpost.com/dr-gri ... n_ros.html that there is work under way on a 2nd Rosslyn entrance. This is the first I've heard of it.

I also saw that Once Again, it will not have a parallel staircase. (The article mentioned "emergency staircase"). WMATA really does seem unable to learn from its mistakes. Far far too many existing stations lack parallel stairs. They were added at Cap South; but that's one down, 70-80 to go.

Rosslyn is likely too deep for stairs to be practical--don't want someone giving themself a coronary on them. But, in general, you are quite right that one of Metro's bigger faults is overreliance on escalators and elevators. Stairs don't break down nearly as often. I, too, hope to see more stations retrofitted with stairs--especially from mezzanine to platform.

In that case, close the the station when you do not have 2 running escalators.

It's far less stressful to walk down STAIRS than a dead escalator.
