Thsi is a report of a passenger train stalling , and sliding backwards in a steep tunnel . Noone was hurt , and no damage was done to any equipment . Yet a 36 page report has been issued by the safety authority , as with all railway "incidents " must be reported .
Many rail supporters have commented how this is yet another unfair burden on rail , that road operators do not face . While road accidents claim around 500 lives a year here , im not aware of any railroad fatalies in the last year .
I have included a link to the report , as it discusses some quite interesting details of railway operations , and the unique circumstances faced by train crews in steep long ( 5 mile ) alpine tunnels .
