It was easy to see and maneuver around, and over, the crumbling sidewalks, crater-sized potholes and rough patches riddling the pavement at the village's train station yesterday.
That's because they weren't yet coated with a layer of snow or ice, which makes walking or driving at this station even more of an obstacle course.
"The biggest problem is pushing the stroller around all the potholes," said Peter Reilly, a marketing associate from Mamaroneck, who held his 2-year-old daughter, Jordan, firmly by the hand as he waited for the 7:28 a.m. train. She was going to nursery school in Manhattan and he to his office nearby.
Metro-North Railroad, which owns the station and parking lot, is well aware of the pavement's poor conditions. The railroad announced plans two years ago to rehabilitate the parking lot, repair the stairs between the upper and lower parking lots, improve drainage and lighting, install signs, guardrails and landscaping, and renovate the sidewalks. The work was supposed to be finished by the end of 2004.
