R1 Sights and Questions

I rode the R1 down to the airport on Friday and saw two things I didn't expect. The first was some pulleys and weights on some of the catenary supports. Is there constant-tension wire on the R1?

Secondly, around Terminal A there was a bunch of work equipment, including an MU with center doors. It wasn't a Silverliner (at least not like one I've ever seen) - did it come from NJT or something?

Yeah the R1 is a contant tension system. Also the camp car you saw on the wire train was an ex NJT Arrow car.
