Watched some videos of recent Waterville - Bangor freights, locations that were South of Bangor. My first impression was the speed enhancements of the trains compared to a few months prior.

What speed improvements?

It's still 10, lol. There was a section between 106 and 109 that was 25, but that dropped back to 10 a couple weeks ago.

I will browse the videos again soon and note the locations ..... the trains I watched were not going 10 mph at some of the viewing spots. Have to admit though, I had stopped watching PanAm videos in the recent past since the train speeds made for rather " painstaking " viewing at times.

What did the track work consist of? Any welded rail show up yet? Was more work completed east or west of Waterville?

My understanding was ties and ballast. From what I read hear it looks like that part is done.

It went from a sketchy 10 in some places to a solid 10.... some places are probably good for 25 but they won't bring them up until the GOVT monies comes in. They are targeting FY2017 completion of the TIGER work.

Spring St. in Newport is still looking pretty sketchy, the frames on the trucks are basically scraping the pavement. But the rest of it seems (in my unprofessional opinion) a bit better than it was last year.

So what are the gondola cars out of Orrington on the end of that train carrying?

Note the good conditions through Winthrop. 25 MPH and smooth sailing. The entire area is like that.

Dirty dirt.
I'm not sure if its dredging of the Penobscot, or site remediation of the former Holtra Chemical plant. Either way its dirt full of heavy metals from Holtra Chem.

Short Pan Am train just passed the Mountain Branch at 3:30 pm, heading east with five depressed center flatcars loaded with large tan colored container-like items. I had seen these over at Turner's Island and was told that they contain 'dirty dirt' either from dredging or landside work.
