So, it seems someone has the idea to make the crossing at woodbourne rd (west trenton line) a quiet zone. http://www.middletownbucks.org/2016%2006-06.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Item 8 a under board of supervisors.

I have used the west trenton line more than any other SEPTA line due to its station near me in west trenton. My opinion on this is that it's stupid to put a quiet zone on a electrified commuter line, and busy freight main line. This line has been here since the 1870's under reading company control. Why now..?

TP:

Blame it on local Woodbourne NIMBYs and their opposition to any train noise.

What will be needed is quad gates and special signs marking the exact date that horn use is discontinued.

Trains will still have the option to use their horns if the need arises...

I live right near Woodbourne. Quiet zones are an incredibly dumb idea. The only way to get a quiet zone will be to do grade seperation (which, if you know the terrain of that area, will NEVER happen!)

Reading the minutes from the meeting, it appears that this is an initial proposal to request funding (from the state) for the improvements that would be necessary to the crossing. They should bill the NIMBY's vs. the taxpayers or just provide them with earplugs.

I'm actually surprised that they are targeting Woodbourne as there are only a couple houses close to that crossing which have been there forever. Most of the newer and denser development is further north near Big Oak, Heacock and Stony Hill Roads. Are they going to make the passengers whisper while they're standing on the station platform as well?

While Woodbourne will never be an overpass because of the terrain, they should really think about overpasses at Big Oak and Heacock Roads.
