Will the MBTA be operating on a Normal schedule? Or a weekend schedule? Most businesses are observing July 4th on Friday, July 3rd.

I'll save you some trouble. Here's an excerpt from the link in the previous post.

"Note: All subway lines, bus routes, Commuter Rail lines, and boats/ferries will operate a regular weekday schedule on the observed Independence Day holiday of Friday, July 3, 2015."

I don't know why the T is saying Friday July 3 is the "observed holiday". When a holiday such as July 4, Christmas, New Years or Veterans Day falls on a Saturday, that is the day it is observed on. Some companies give their employees a day off anyway, but many do not.

I think most people would defer to feds or stock market. Both of them 'observe' it on 7/3. Just semantics; agree somewhat on your point, but common usage is 'observed' for holidays falling on weekends.
