The CSX still runs in the street through Clearwater. The line is in use for
local freight service between Tampa and St. Petersburg.
Probably one train a day.

At one time there were two lines through Clearwater, SAL and ACL. After
the two railroads merged, the traffic was shifted over a period of time to
the SAL line from Tampa but south of Clearwater, the trains were shifted
to the former ACL line for the ride on to St. Pete. The existing line
through the center of town is in the middle of East Avenue and the former
passenger station was just south of the old post office by a few blocks.
I believe the station is history today.
The old ACL line north out of Clearwater has been abandoned for some
years now and is torn up.
I don't know just how much freight business remains in this area but I
suspect there is not too much, maybe still one train a day out of Tampa
but I do not know for sure.
I would like to take a trip up that way again sometime this year just to
see a few things and will check out downtown Clearwater if I do.
