New life for Ottawa-Pembroke rail line?
Valley group buys former CN line

This is good news in my opinion. It would be absurd that a line connecting to the nation's capital be removed... Now let's get the CP line between Mattawa & Smiths Falls saved so that passenger service can be created between Sault Ste Marie, Sudbury, North Bay & Ottawa.

Not likely. Personally, I'm amazed that the province of Ontario still subsidizes the Ontario Northland and federal funding would seem to be out of the question.

There's a coalition formed in the Sault to get passenger service there (via Sudbury, North Bay). http://www.captrains.ca/

The province subsidizes GO Transit & they're constantly expanding their services. The feds offer subsidies to both the Algoma Central run (between the Sault & Hearst), and the Toronto-North Bay section for the Northlander (given it operates on CN track along that section).
