New green EMP intermodal trailers?

Hi all

Twice I have seen a shiny new GREEN EMP intermodal trailer here in MA. Now I see that Athearn is releasing some in HO scale.

Are these trailers common? Is this a permanant change? I am curious!

Pretty common, ive saw at least a few on every stack train here for the last couple weeks.

That looks like a standard 40 ft shipping container with a bit tacked on each end . How long are they ?

They are 53' long. The support points are at 40', which is why they look just as you describe them. This allows stacking with 40' and 48' containers.
