Does anyone remember a stack of escalators at Washington Union Station that led to the west side (towards the Metrorail) of the parking garage?

On the main level of the parking garage, at the front edge and near the west side, is a sort of half-canopy, round on one side. Back in 1983, when the garage was still stuck half-finished, there was a pair of narrower escalators leading down from there. They led to a middle level at which point you had to loop back around to another pair of escalators directly underneath. These led to the main level of Union Station, opposite to the present day (trackside) entrance to the Metrorail station. When they were running, signs said they were the way to go for local buses.

Currently there is a restricted door where these escalators used to be at station level. Anyone know if the escalators were just mothballed, or ripped out when the station was renovated in the late '80s.

Other ghost escalators would include the rickety (wooden?) units that led to the through platform prior to the renovations, and a very weird pair installed (and possibly never used) at the edge of "the pit", that hole in the middle of the floor in the main hall as part of the ill-fated National Visitors Center project.
