Did I miss something? Who said they were going to be scrapped?

As ANYONE knows, if you have recently painted a loco, it will never be scrapped. Makes perfect sense. All the freshly painted Conrail Alcos come to mind, in the late 70's, early 80's, as my proof............ :P

Maybe thats why, thanks U-Haul..... :-)

I hate to see them leave the property - the 15 series is fun to watch switching the mills of NW indiana, because they are loud - without the turbo, there's plenty of stack-talk coming from the PM. Further, being a little lo-power unit, the crews have to kick them pretty hard to move a heavier cut, as opposed to using whatever road power is on hand to switch, as is done the ex-NKP auto yard at Ford/Hegewisch. For those interested, the GP15-1 is still used regularly in Chicago Heights by UP's CHTT, under the UPY number series. They switch Sugar Steel, Ford, Chi Hts Steel, and Bulkmatic along with partner MP15's.

I heard that they were all bought up by GMTX. the units in enola have the conrail and ns markings blacked out and the gmtx initials stenciled on.

CSX also rid them selves of a bunch of Ex Conrail GP-15's to some leaseing company don't rember the count but I want to say between 15 and 20 units to GMTX?

In the early 2000s CSXT traded in some GP15-1s that then ended up on the LLPX. Currently there are eight on the roster.

These units are slowly being spread to the winds.

Last sunday I noticed the bottle train from my speeding South Shore train, at the IHB overpass at Kennedy Ave. This used to be a typical assignment for the GP15-1's, really the only road assignment I've ever seen them on. Now, it has a blue SD50 leading long-hood forward, and I couldnt' tell if there was something on the other end. Talk about a bump in power, going from GP15 to SD50... This is a bit overkill, as the train never goes over 20-ish mph from my observation. Must be one of those "what's in the power-pit today" situations.

CSX Downgraded all their GP15-1's to yard service recently. However, they are still chugging. Waiting for a few to go on sale. #1534 and #1536.
Would pay some good money for either one of em' sentimental value I guess.....

Great...there goes my other supply of GP-15's in town..

Well, I am just saying in CSX just down graded them. They still have many miles to go..... Most of them might still see road service. But, those 2 are my favorites.
