The GP40's were not the last loco's delivered to the NYC the Alco C-430's were and incidently, they were the last to be built by Alco.

.....were two T-6 switchers built for Newburgh & South Shore, numbers 1016 & 1017, completed in Jan 1969. One is now on the Middletown & Hummelstown RR in PA.

The NYC C-430s certainly were the last NYC Alcos.

The other is now Cargill switcher if I recall correctly.

What happened to the Apache NYC Alco they had? Think it was a RS32.

Whats the status of the non-restored U25B? There was a topic a while back on it but it lost interest.

I was woundering, besides A&M's RS-32 that they have, how many of NYC's are left and are still running??

The Railroad Of New England has a New York Central RS-3 on one of their sidings in Thomaston CT.
Not sure of the number if its 8909 or 8904.

Yes, all four of the LAL C430's are NYC.

there is a 5th surviving C430, GBW #315, preserved at the National Railroad Museum in Green Bay Wisconsin.

those are the total surviving C430's.
4 from the NYC.
and 1 GBW.

Several NYC GP40's are also still operating with the Rochester & Southern and the Buffalo & Pittsburg.

RMNE's RS-3 mentioned above is NOT an NYC unit--- it is originally B&M 1508, built 1954, and swapped with D&H in 1974 for another RS-3. It became D&H 1508, later D&H 4075, then went to Steamtown in 1984. Sold to a private owner, it served at Western Maryland Scenic Rwy as "WM 199" until 1999. The owner moved it to Michigan to operate on a ex-NYC branch, and painted it into the pseudo-NYC "cigar band" it currently wears. Bought by RMNE in 2005, it will go back to being B&M 1508 again, sometime in 2007.

The only existing NYC RS-3s that I know about are the one at Adirondak, and the one in Kansas.

How about older EMD switchers? There's got to be a few of those still around.

Speaking of switchers I can't believe that nobody has mentionned one of my favorite locomotives of all time: B&H #5. She's an Alco S-1 built as NYC #872 in March, 1950, and retained the same number briefly under PC. She then became Despatch Shops #5, until sent to GE(?) for disposition when the shops closed. Old #5 arrived on the B&H in August, 1970 and has been there ever since.

Actually there are more RS3's than the two mentioned. The 8223 and 8255 are both in NYC paint but there are others, both repowered and original:

8246 Cape Cod 1201 ex amtrak 104, Repowered with EMD eng. chopped hood

8254 Owned by Mohawk & Hudson chapter NRHS stored in Glenmont NY, for sale?

8263 Ex amtrak 106 repowerd with EMD eng. in OHIO?
