Permission to open up 3:45 PM
CSXT 4405, CSXT 6228, and 14 cars today.

There’s 4 people on the train. One is a foreman I believe. NJT signal maintainers are waiting in Red Bank yard for the train.

With all due respect, Mr Rustyrail. The issue with Seashore Lines was not the amount of money involved. They wouldn’t have spent millions of their own money on Clayton’s track otherwise.

For whatever reason Conrail rejected NJSLs deal that they put forward to operate the Southern, Freehold, and Tom’s River ITs around 2015 or so and gave the line to C&D in early 2020.

IIRC, the majority of the money used to repair from Clayton in Woodmansie to Lakehurst was from grants/the state. That's not to say that NJSL didn't put up a lot of their own money, but I'm not sure if they put millions in. If they did, I would be expecting them to be a bit more assertive about getting Lakewood-Lakehurst done, if not already having some sort of rail operation going on. There's no way they put up millions of dollars just to deal with CR's usual nonsense without starting a lawsuit.

Who's to say C&D didn't outbid/object the deal? It's very likely that C&D counter-offered against NJSL for the SOUS, FIT, and TRIT in 2015, the issue went back and forth for a few years before being settled in 2020, COVID occurred, and that threw a wrench in the issue even more.

SA31 has moved the cars around inside Red Bank. They are now on the far left track.

Far left facing South or North? What is today's consist?

Facing North. Still 4405 and 6228 with 14 cars.

What they did was Drop the 14 cars on the main, take the engines down to the South end where the switch is, back into the yard, take the cars that were sitting on the far right side to the far left, Left them there, then went back to the 14 cars and left.

I guess they did that so the brakes can be fixed? If they get that done next week those cars will go back to Browns next week.

Anyone have an exact date on when C&D wants to get going down here? June 19th is next week. Provided they do start then, next week will be the final SA31 runs on the Southern Secondary and Freehold Industrial Track…

From press report: "Conrail will get $675,000 from the state for a $750,000 project to repair three bridges in Lakehurst, while New Jersey Seashore Lines will get $1.5 million, one of the largest single grants, for its line running through Lakehurst and Manchester and into Woodland Township in Burlington County."

The recipient of the grant pays 10 percent, so CMSL/NJSL share was $150,000.
