1066 got to middleboro a couple of days ago. Visually spotted at Mansfield at midnight apparently. Any updates on anything else from the Erie plant?

Nothing

1051 was testing 2 days ago. This will be interesting as 1051 is the first in house Keolis "rebuild" to come out of Erie.

1063 got released from Erie today. Looks like he is coming home from the warranty repairs

What's even more interesting is that the three units recently back from Erie have been squirreled away in Rochester and have yet to surface!
Wonder what's up with that?

Lack of k car coaches to test with them since that is nearing completion.

Don't they have all those MBBs down there that cannot be used for in revenue service? But I guess no control coaches though...

Most of the mbb’s down there need to be rebuilt before being used again. They could use them now I guess, but I would think that they need new mechanical components before operating again whether it’s for passenger service or not. Also for the k cars, there is only 2 more to return once this one gets back into service. The only one operable down there is 1529. I do realize that these can be further explained in the separate threads as this is for rebuilt F40’s only.

1063 is heading back home. By the Fairport NY cam on Q634 after spending a week at Erie waiting for CSX to pick it up.

Any updates on any progress of any units? Even the three in testing and 1063’s return yet again.

On Sunday morning there was a 3C in Middleboro yard. It was 1060 or 1065. And this morning 1063 was there too

I had a report that unit was the 1066 and it had been there since it came back.

Any updates on how long the three units will be listed as in testing for? Any updates on anything from Erie?

The 1065 was picked in Middleboro Saturday by a Readville Extra (along with a bunch of coaches). Nothing on the others. Nothing out of Erie.
Also found out that the 010 & 011 did indeed end up at LTE in McDonald, Ohio. Apparently Wabtec/Erie has some sort of agreement with LTE
to prep the units for overhaul (draining fluids, etc.).

Alright, I had a far fetched idea… bear with me as I try to explain this. So the back Bay train collision happened in the early 1990s destroying F40 1073. Since Amtrak was at fault they had to give MBTA compensation for the locomotive that was wrecked; so Amtrak paid for an extra F40 in the 1990s Morrison Knudsen F40PHM-2C order from MBTA. That extra engine that Amtrak paid for was 1036. So 1036 technically took 1073 spot on the F40 roster.

The idea was when 1036 gets rebuilt in Erie Pa, it could be renumbered to 1073 and be in the original F40 paint (I think it’s called single stripe) and have a plaque on the side (like 1000 or 1052) remembering the crash. I got the idea since, as I said 1036 is 1073 for replacement… 1073 was in the single stripe paint when it got wrecked. I feel like it would be a good tribute or memorial to those affected by the crash if 1036 was the number to 1073 and given that single straight paint with a plaque on the side.

Lastly, that would simply help organize the fleet a little bit by filling in the gap for the missing 1073 number by moving that extra “11th” engine from MK order into the 1073 slot.

I would be interested to hear your thoughts on this idea. Thanks
