Plug doors are the standard for new LRVs, and as diburning mentioned, the technology is a lot more mature than it was when the Boeings were built. Folding doors cannot be used with level platforms (which are necessary for speedy boarding and true accessibility) because they will hit the platform surface.

3922 has now been delivered
  by MBTA DMA
 
3923 has been delivered. So this marks the completion of the Type 9 delivery. To date, cars 3900-3905, 3907-3916 have been accepted for service so 3906, 3917-3923 are in acceptance testing.

Extremely unlikely. The MBTA is probably less than a year away from pulling the trigger on the Type 10s, which will have substantially more capacity than the 9s and be 100% low floor.

Was this the truck hauled white shrink wrapped trolley that was backing up eastbound Mass Pike traffic around Worcester late Wednesday (10/21/20)?

Add to that that the present situation with the folding doors makes it necessary to have those problematic slide out ramps which at times get stuck on the platforms (particularly Copley). Slightly higher (really level with the car's floor) platforms would eliminate the need for these and their required maintenance.

As it states on netransit roster, they aren’t getting anymore type 9’s since they are moving forward with the type 10 design instead. Nothing has been updated or contracted to a builder yet.
