For all keeping track, an update on the cars used as the money trains...

8000-8001 have been scrapped. 8002-8005 are still in service and are the last 1000 series cars to ply the rails...for now.

6182-6183 and 2016-2017 have been added to the collection duty fleet and have been seen in service as of early this month. That brings the revenue fleet to eight cars.

Wow, the 8000-series is being scrapped already?!? Nobody even had a change to ride them! :-D

So I saw that 6182-6183 have received a yellow vinyl wrap. Will this be the new standard for WMATA's non-revenue cars?

Me thinks yes. Makes sense as all of WMATA non revenue equipment with the exception of the track geometry car are yellow.

Many road aboard them before they were configured for revenue collection service. Early on WMATA would dispatch any available 4 car train for revenue collection. Dedicated revenue collection rolling stock didn't come in to use until WMATA commissioned the revenue collection facility in Alexandria Yard in the early 1980s.

The old "8000" money cars were actually converted 1000 series cars
Metro has now converted 2 6000 series cars into the new money cars.

Here is a picture of the yellow "banana" train
