SRNJ might get the Garmar Lumber business in Woolwich.

That Salem branch is dead, and industry in Salem is likely never coming back. The only two customers that remain are the Farmer's Exchange in Woodstown and Garmar near Rt. 322 above the interchange. The glass factory is gone, Mannington's business was lost, and as far as I know, the pole treatment plant is no more. The port currently serves one commercial ship that runs weekly between Salem and Bermuda (and draws no rail traffic). SRNJ would presumably leave an engine or two parked in Woodbury to run freight south as needed, probably in a money-losing two or three carloads at a time. Why anyone would want to get involved in an operation like that is beyond me.

The filing lists some interesting potential customers on a line serving an agricultural region. Hopefully SRNJ will offer better service and marketing, growing the business and also shifting traffic from trucks to rail for the few remaining customers.

A couple of "oldies but goodies" on NS 39G this morning.

Leading was NS #6773 (SD60M), originally built as CR #5519 in 1993.

The trailing unit was NS #2547 (SD70 standard cab), built by Norfolk Southern in 1994.

CSX C759 had 8800 horsepower and three cars.
A little under powered I'd say.

Quick question about the video. In one of the shots of CA51 that you have, there are what look like trash cars in the consist. Where are those headed? I’d assume down the Mt Holly line, but doesn’t CA51 head towards Beeselys Pt?

Thanks in advance!

Unless they've recently pulled some cars out, Tuckahoe must be getting a little crowded these days. Maybe Tony can work out a deal for car storage on those yard tracks at the plant.

While returning from the shore yesterday, I noticed tanks and the covered trash cars are actually being stored on the Ocean City Branch south of Tuckahoe, to around the Rt 50 overpass.

Thanks Ben. That doesn't bode well for any trains to the plant any time soon.

Hey, at least it bodes well for at least a segment of the Ocean City branch if Tony wants to use it for storage... Better then seeing the line ripped out once the plant is gone.

There's plenty of storage space both within and just outside of the plant as well if something could be worked out. As long as CA51 runs to Tuckahoe, CMSL would probably just be on the hook for maintenance on the branch.

CMSL could lease it from CSX and B. L. England if the lease payments could be kept below what CMSL charges for storage. Looks like 4 storage tracks and a run-around. There are 2 locos as well that CMSL could use.

Yeah, not really sure how that works, and not really sure how many tankers or storage cars Tony plans on keeping there. Do you know? Where are the stored cars now exactly?? Does he ever bring any onto the siding right before the plant?? I do like those google maps satellite photos! It shows B.L.E still has their own switcher engine in there??

Most of the car storage has been on the Cape May Branch, at least to the point where it's passable. Unfortunately, there has been considerable vandalism by scrappers on the branch through Dennisville and the line is OOS at that point. I believe there was even track material stolen from UNDER some of the parked cars.

Cars being stored on the OC branch is a relatively new development. They would probably have to pull them back to Milmay if a coal or oil train was to get through.
