I read transcripts of two interrogations of the track inspectors. It basically confirms everything folks like "Unsuck DC Metro" have been reporting for years via confidential sources. Track inspectors frequently skip their walks completely but radio in that they're doing it. If they actually do their walks, they don't actually inspect anything, don't actually measure or gauge anything, don't actually count anything, etc. Frequently ride a train making only a fast visual inspection, which is even more useless than the casual stroll on foot. And in all of the above cases, simply photocopy the prior inspection report, change the date, and sign it. All the reports are fraudulent. Literally YEARS of reports are completely identical photocopies with altered dates. They just say "looks ok to me", make a copy of a report for 3 years ago, and sign it. The supervisors are aware of this. The supervisors actively participate in it. In fact the supervisors instruct their people to do it. The supervisors and levels above them discourage inspectors who actually do their jobs from calling in restrictions do to failing components. And all of this has been going on for decades.

For years, this has been published and known by people like Unsuck DC Metro on his blogs. The mainstream media in the area chose to ignore it. WMATA chose to ignore it and claimed "he doesn't know what he's talking about." He cites confidential sources in WMATA that say it like it is. He provides photos and videos. And it was ignored. Everyone at Metro that sees it happening ignored it. And people are DEAD because of it.

And despite all this, Queen Jackie of the ATU is complaining that Metro won't listen to their employees about how to better run the system. And how they bring in contractors instead using metro employees to inspect and fix things. Gee Jackie. Maybe it's because you and your merry band of morons are the ones that created this entire mess, and continue to propagate it.

Anyone that believes this is limited to track maintenance is badly mistaken. This culture pervades nearly every department that touches rail, from power, to rail car maintenance, all the way to elevator/escalator. NTSB hasn't even begun to scratch the surface. Sadly I'm worried they don't have the standing to investigate other departments as - miraculously - those other maintenance activities have not (yet) contributed to injuries or fatalities.

Chris Hart is extremely wise to continue pushing for FRA oversight. It's obviously not ideal for anyone but it's truly the only way anything is ever going to change.

No doubt. The only thing that's surprising to me is that anyone finds this situation to be surprising. It's been so obvious for so long. The traditional news media just blindly republished whatever the PR department spun to them, reporting everything was hunky dory, nothing to see here. If you didn't keep up with the less traditional blogs that really dug past the PR machine, you'd think everything was puppies and kittens at Metro. Any time those non-traditional blogs publishing actual reality started to gain notice, it would be silenced and ignored. The PR department would laugh it off and say "We don't comment on those silly blogs". And then Jackie Jeter would claim "YOU ARE ALL RACISTS!"

I think "fired" isn't the right word here.

I think "ran through with Wederfield's blade, slicing necks until the heads rolled far enough" would be a better term to use.

Four inspectors fired, six more to be fired or suspended w/o pay, 10 to be disciplined.
Two supervisors fired, one more to be fired, two to be disciplined.
Two top managers demoted.
One assistant superintendent escaped.

ATU Local 689 is expected to fight it, but they may have an up-hill challenge if they content they're only firing regular workers.

...and one claims that he's being targeted for whistle blowing.

USA9 report on fired whistleblower (WARNING! Autoplay video). The union whistleblower said he reported issues to OSHA.

NBC 4 DC report on union questioning the firings and suggest more training.

And there it is. As per usual, the ATU's response to factual criticism of their actions is "YOU MUST BE RACIST!" They have got to come up with something better.
