Several times today, there were announcements on the L line that there was no K service between Broadway-Junction and Grand Street. There hasn't been a service known as K in the NYC Subway in 26 years. Was someone drunk when they programmed that announcement?

What key next to K is marked with the same letter with a subway line that's been running in two sections since early Friday morning..?

Not so. You have forgotten that the old AA service was redesignated as the K from 1985 until it was discontinued in 1988. So 26 years is about right.
