From the looks of it, all the cars that didn't need new paint were immediately put into service and are now working up north on the UP lines. The "rougher" cars (these) were all still in RTA cream/orange/brown and from the looks of it, needed at least a new paint job on the outside before being run on any train.I think those that were " immediately put into service" were the five from VRE, numbers 7825, 7836, 7838, 7840, and 7848, all of which are now on the UP from what I know. I don't think Metra let any of the 13 from Utah (7787, 7788, 7789, 7791, 7794, 7795, 7801, 7804, 7806, 7810, and 7811) loose on the system without a paint job first. I think this is what you said; I'm just clarifying. Also, I spotted 7811 on a weekend train on the UPN a couple of weeks ago. Any of the others from Utah operating yet?

Additionally, 7787 was the the third car from the rear on a nine car UP Northwest Line Train as recently as June 6th.F40c611fan wrote:Thought I'd give this a bump...byte wrote:Looked like new paint - platinum mist with blue & orange stripes. Four of the five ex-VRE cars are still roaming around UP (7840 was on the Rock at last report), but I've only seen less than half of the former Frontrunner cars in service so far (#'s 7789, 7794, 7804, 7810, and 7811). I've also seen 8738; think it's a former UTAX car, but not sure. Trying to compile an unofficial list of these older cars, any other sightings?

In the case of the 7810 ( I rode this car home a week ago), the seats look like they were originally installed in the 8400/7400 cars. When you say blue seats, do you mean the dark blue seats now used on many of the newer coaches, or the blue-green seats on many of the old Pullmans before they were retired? Just curious.

However, at least three cars (7789, 7794, 7810) actually have seats that are identical to the seats found in unrehabbed 7400/8400 cars. I am just speculating that Metra placed the discarded seats from the 7400/8400 cars going through rehab on those three Pullman cars.Illinifan wrote: Besides the new paint job, all of the former Frontrunner cars in Metra service have blue seats instead of the orange ones. I think there could be other 8500 cabs over there, but I'm not sure.F40c611fan wrote:Most of the former UTA cars are receiving blue seats similar to the ones found in Pullman cars rehabbed in the 1990s. Five of UP's 8400 rehabbed cab cars are now running on the Milwaukee District and HC (8400, 8401, 8403, 8409, and 8414).Do you have any idea of which 8400 cab cars underwent rebuild? If you know, tell me in order.
doepack wrote:I have no idea what the order is right now, but I've recently seen 8406, 8417, 8423, and 8428, so that's a start...The Milwaukee District now has rebuilt 8400 cab, 8418, I think.
