I have seen only one of these cars up close before but never got much of a good look at it. I think they hook up a vacuum tube to the bottom of the car and suck out the contents much like some hoppers are done. You'll see these cars pop up on videos having to do with the Alaska Railroad some appear in small batches but in my guess these are used for hauling powdered chemicals?? These two pics below show the same style car but with different numbers owned by the same company but taken by 2 different people one person reports that one if moving Cement the other reports one move Slurry.

look very similiar to cars we had here carrying cement .Also used to have one s carrying flour . all goes by road now .

Not the best pic of the car, but I believe they are cars owned by Halliburton, and are used to transport drilling mud.
