If it works for railroads perhaps it could work for cars,
Instead of traffic signals and posted highway speeds, Traffic signals could be broadcast on short cell frequincys. Your car would tell you "Red Light Approaching". If you fail to head a red light your brakes are applied. Rather then have fixed speed limits you have varible speed limits that are broadcasted for a streach or block of highway. Speeds depending on weather, time of day and traffic denesty could run from 45 to 85 as needed. If you exceed that speed limit a verbal warning is issued
" Please slow down you are exceeding the speed limit" If you do not heed your brakes are automaticliy applied untill you slow down. Likewise if you fall asleep there is a dead man mechnisim that vibrates your seat or gives you a mild electric shock to wake you up.
This system would eliminate the need for traffic tickets and eliminate traffic jams.

Gearhead, what does this have to do with high speed rail? If you want to discuss how railroad technology could be applied to cars, that would be better be suited for a car forum.

As a general note: If you have to put OT in the topic, RR.net is probably not the right forum.

If you can figure out how to tie this into high speed rail, PM Me and I'll review it.
