A new feature is now available on the viarail.ca website which allows people to check the current departure and arrival status of VIA trains in the Quebec City - Windsor Corridor.

This is fantastic news! Too bad it took so long, but better late than never.

Even though it says only corridor train information is available, the site does give the status of other trains. The Canadian is a problem, though. You can only ask for today's or yesterday's trains - and that is the departure from its point of origin. So it is helpful for checking on the Ocean and Chaleur. I suppose it would have to allow us to enquire about four days ago in order to get information about the Canadian for its entire run.

Id rather see satellite Wifi added with a realtime GPS locator system installed in the mix for all trains, corridor and LD so anyone could track the location of the train from there desktop at home, or laptop on the street if your heading to the station, or on board the train, or waiting in a station, or if your just railfanning ( no longer would you need scanners) not just the departure and arrival. This would give VIA a leg up on Amtrak. Wait they already have WIFI on corridor trains, mark 1 for VIA Rail, 1 for Amtrak full system wide trains status.
