I know from reading here that the present Temple station was built during RailWorks, but don't know too much about the old one.

Where was it in relation to the new station? Anyone have any photos of it?

It was just south of the present station on then Columbia Ave (cecil b moore). You'll notice that the viaduct is a bit wider at this location which would have facilitated platforms. Other then that I've never seen a picture.

The original Temple University station was in fact located at Columbia Avenue. In it's last years, it housed a day care center until it's untimely demise in November of 1984. I don't remember exact dates other than it being just a week or so after the CC commuter tunnel opened, but severe structural defects were found at the station and it, along with the four track main, were immediately closed for fear of collapse. The station and elevated structure were removed and the ROW replaced with fill so that the tracks could be reinstalled. I also remember the "joy" of having to take the subway and doing the "Logan Shuffle" for four more weeks, only this time in the cold and snow.
