Just south of hte newer njt paterson station is an what looks like old station. It appears to have had 4 tracks going thru at one time. What station was this? did it stop there or keep going northward?

Looks like you are looking at the stub terminal for the Erie Newark Branch (the line through Harrison, Kearny, East Newark, North Newark, Belleville, Nutley, Allwood, Athenia).

I actulally never got around to asking about this. How big was this Erie station? Anybody have any pics of it? Is there a possible use for it if it were rehabbed? Maybe a layover spot?

I was looking at some Sanborn insurance maps in detail.

The Erie Newark Branch merged smothlyinto the old Erie mainline
a block or so south of 21st st -- I don't think it had a stub end
or any station besides the main Paterson station in
that area (near Ward and Market
north of the merge).
But I am not a Paterson local so I could be wrong

The DLW did have a stub end freight branch coming up from
their Boonton line along the west side of Paterson. It came up
just on the west side of the Erie Newark Branch, and then went north
just on the west side of Getty Ave, and ended at Slater St. There
was a Erie freight building along the west side of Dale, just south
of Slater, but I don't think it is there any more.

The stub platforms are immediately to the west of the active tracks.

NJ transit was using the abandoned stub track site to store MOW equipment.Don't know if they still do.That freight house was lettered for both Erie &NYS&W RRs.I think it came down in the mid to late 80's.Always wondered what use The Susquehanna actually got out of it.
