Overheard dot salt trucks say "the susquehanna train station is on fire". All of us look around and were like what? Beeing the only railfan here at work i knew what he meant but couldn't figure if it was a joke or not. Well hackensack requested arson squad for the fire at More and Mercer which is the old nysw station before the river st trestle. Its now or was a mexican grill. Im going ot see if i can get pics after work (0630)

The building is gutted. The walls are up, but the roof is burned off and the windows are blown out. Looks like a total loss.

The 1896 Hackensack station was a close twin to the still existing Rutherford station. That's long gone, replaced by the little square brick structure with the big neon sign on the Bergen Record side of River Street in the '50's (and torn down in the late eighties).

The portion that remained was actually an enclosed portion of the old station canopy, but not the station itself.
