Guess that goes hand-in-hand with the Port Authority expanding the Global Terminal.
Thanks, but that was already posted here.

True, but you posted that notice in the NYNJ Sightings thread, which to me (and I suppose the OP too) is where you post pictures of locomotives travelling down 1st Ave, talk about consists seen in Greenville yard and so on.

This thread can be used to discuss if Global Terminal rail access is really be re-activated, among other things (like how will Port Jersey RR be integrated into NYNJ, are there opportunities for expansion, and so on). Buying Port Jersey railroad makes sense for the PA, since PJ has lines already going into Global Terminal across Port Jersey Blvd from where they store their locos (albiet those line(s) are covered w/ pavement in places - looking via Bing, rail access would probably have to be rebuilt and reconfigured anyway - assuming that's the Global Terminal actually mentioned). This Port Jersey railroad purchase is an interesting topic on it's own, hopefully it won't just peter out...

From a PANYNJ press release from Jun. 25, 2010:
http://www.panynj.gov/press-room/press- ... ne_id=1296

>>>As part of its recent initiatives to position the Port of New York and New Jersey for future economic growth, the Port Authority today announced the acquisition of additional prime waterfront property – the 98-acre Global Terminal on the Port Jersey peninsula in Jersey City and Bayonne.

Coupled with the Port Authority’s previous transaction in 2007 to change the use of the adjacent Northeast Auto Terminal lease to allow for container handling, today’s agreement will lead to the expansion of the Global Container Terminal to 170 acres, which will assist in handling future cargo growth. The expanded Global Container Terminal will become part of the Port Jersey-Port Authority Marine Terminal facility.

Earlier this week, the Port Authority also agreed to purchase a significant portion of the Military Ocean Terminal at Bayonne for future, long-term port use....<<<

As you can see this is the reason that the PANYNJ wanted the Port Jersey RR.
