Hi all,

I was at Oak Island yard in Newark two weeks ago and saw NREX SW-1000 #306 next to the roundhouse coupled to an NS GP40-2. Is that NREX unit is used around the area and if not, where is it used? I have seen it a few times there, but it's usually no where to be found. Anyone know?

Thanks,
Joe

Maybe a local Industry is renting the unit? It could be that NREX Asked CSX or NS to inspect and service it?

I believe that the East Brookfield & Spencer Railroad (scab outift) in East Brookfield,Ma. has NREX on the engines. White and teal scheme. The 2 engines that they had last time I was there were in 1100 series.

Just did a Google search for NREX and found that link.

The two units at East Brookfield are leased from RTEX, not NREX.
RTEX is Railway Trust Equipment. Both units were cycled through a
locomotive dealer in Georgia prior to assignment in New England.

The SW1200RS is ex-CP and the GP38-3 is ex-Phelps-Dodge. There
was one other SW1200RS, but it didn't last long and went to Ohio. And
a Guilford GP40 was also there for a time.

Thanks Dave, I stand corrected. (We tend to deal with them as little as possible since they are non-union and stole jobs from us.)

BTW, the Guilford unit they had originally was the MEC #351.
