The Erie Lackawanna Dining Car Preservation Society's Nickel Plate Road Pullman City of Lima will be moving over the Norfolk Southern from Madison, Illinois to Portland, Pennsylvania, where it will be interchanged with the Delaware Lackawanna for its return to Scranton, PA.

ELDCPS would be interested in seeing photos of our car in transit, and so we are launching a photo contest. The best photo, as determined by the ELDCPS Board of Directors, will be displayed on our website and newsletter, and the photographer will receive a 2008 Weekend Chief Erie Lackawanna calendar and a bag of our very popular Erie Lackawanna coffee.

All entries should be emailed to [email protected], or sent to ELDCPS, PO BOX 5821, Parsippany, NJ, 07054

Contest ends upon the cars arrival in Scranton.

We will try and post tracking and routing information on our website at http://www.eldcps.org

Good luck!

I haven't seen any publicity (except for Railpace) about the Nov 10-11 Scranton excursions with #833.

The Erie Lackawanna Dining Car Preservation Society is proud to announce that it's first restored passenger car, the Nickel Plate Road sleeping car "City of Lima", is on its way to Scranton, PA. In order to celebrate this event and publicize the Society in the area we are going to have an open house with the "City of Lima" and a series of trips on the Delaware Lackawanna Railroad through the Pocono Mountains:

On Friday, November 9th the "City of Lima" will be trackside at the Radisson Hotel in Scranton, the beautiful former Lackawanna Station. We will have a cocktail party with cash bar and an open house on the car from 6 pm to 7:30 pm.

On Saturday, November 10th we will operate two trips over the Delaware Lackawanna Railroad. The first will run from Scranton to Tobyhanna, the second from Scranton to Cresco. These trips will be the first revenue trips of the "City of Lima" on this line since 1963! There will be coach and first class seating. Our train will be pulled by one of the Delaware Lackawanna Alco locomotives and the New York & Greenwood Lake's recently restored Erie E8 833 - the last passenger locomotive in existence from the Erie or Erie Lackawanna and once a regular visitor to Scranton.

Saturday night we will have a cocktail reception in the hotel for passengers and friends from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm.

On Sunday, November 11th we will run a single excursion from Scranton to Analomink. This trip will include several photo stops.

We hope that you can come out and join us for these events. All of the proceeds from these activities will benefit our continuing restoration efforts to return Erie Lackawanna dining car 741 back to Scranton and to full operating condition. For more information, printable flyers, and ticket ordering information please visit our website at
